As most of us are rewriting our resumes, we look for new ideas and new roads to travel to increase our marketability.

 

Joining a club or organization that interests you and take an active role in it right from the start will add definite credibility and position to your resume. This will also make your life much more purposeful. 

Several years ago, I joined Toastmasters International. I wanted to learn how to effectively communicate. I also wanted to be a better leader and businessperson. I have resolved my fear of public speaking, increased my leadership skills, gained self-confidence and met some of the most influencing people in my community. I freely network with these people and contribute of my time and expertise. I am finding purpose in my life.

 

You can do this too, by investigating a club or organization that interests you or will teach some thing new.

Always be looking for people to coach and mentor you.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Living Life on Purpose- Eliminate One Bad Habit

 

Living life on purpose- eliminate one bad habit can make life a great deal better.

 

You can start to live your life on purpose by making a serious and diligent effort to eliminate one bad habit in your life. 

I will share with you one that I am working on. 

I have this very bad habit of finishing people’s sentences or comments.  When they pause, I am impatient and try to finish their attempts to make a point or comment.   I tended to rationalize my conduct by stating that as a writer I was always one or two thoughts ahead of some one. Alternatively, that I just had an intuition of what they were going to say.

 

No matter, people would be down right upset with me for interrupting them. I was not invited to parties anymore, among other things.

I have learned to stop interrupting and become much more patient with people. I started to really listen to what they were saying and hold my comments until later. My relationships have increased and so have my communication skills. 

You must have at least one bad habit that you can eliminate that will change your life and the way you are persevered by others.

Purposeful Living- Develop Your Inquisitiveness and Use Your Senses Positively

 

By Developing your inquisitiveness and using your senses positively, you develop creativity.  

Why it is important to take time revisit the child with in yourself. 

When you actively change your perspective of the way you think and see the world around you, you become more aware of the simple beauty and simple pleasures that life has to offer. The positive feelings you get will promote healthy, healing energy through out your body and mind. 

So how do you do this?

Spend one full day paying attention to the objects around you, which you typically take for granted.

Find the beauty in details you usually over look!

• the fine wood grain of a table
• the fizzing of a carbonated beverage
• a piece of popped corn
• a honeybee on a clover leaf

These are just a few suggestions, to get you started. You see you start to look at things with a definite purpose and reason. You make an effort to really look at something in a creative or analytical way. You open up your mind to the other wise hidden.

 

This is a great chance to think and act like a child again, using the innocent wonderment of a child.

Remember you still have the inquisitiveness of a child; you just have not used it for a very long time.

 

What are the guidelines of this experiment?

*Touch and feel for texture and detail.

* See light through the object.

* What does it smell like?

* What kind of sound does it make?

 

You are actively using your senses to explore your world.

Do something very special!!

 

We all love to be appreciated!!

Here is a great way to appreciate a friend!

 

Each day for the week of Feb 7^th through Feb 14^th, give a single rose to someone in your life who deserves special recognition.

 

Now as an alternative for a rose, give a small box of chocolates or a scented candle or even scented soap.

These wonderful thoughtful gifts are great even the men in your life.  

 

You can start a tradition that can go on for years. This is a small price to pay for the wonderful things your friends have done.

 

This is extra special and very effective if the person has not been regularly noticed for their good works!!

 

Sleep Deprived- Getting the Rest you need is a Solution to Many Everyday Problems!

 

I know you are the type of person that is constantly busy from morning until night.

You even think that sleeping is a waste of time or that you just cannot slow yourself down to rest.

Do you think that four or six hours of sleep is enough time to get adequate mental and physical recharging?

Do you think that just because you have gotten used to four to six hours sleep that this is really all you need?

 

Let me reassure you that you can do quality things with at least eight hours sleep. A few hours extra, hours of sleep a night will recharge you very nicely.

 

Here is my coaching challenge for you:

 

Choose a week to get a minimum of fifty-six hours of sleep over the course of seven nights.

Please take this challenge very seriously, you will find, at least for that week you will feel like a new person. You will be happier, much more productive and able to solve many of your everyday problems. Your thinking and decision-making skills are much more enhanced and your energy levels will be higher.

 

Oh, by the way, you will be far less grouchy. 

 

 

 

 

Self- Control Means Being Tough on Yourself but Gentle on Others

 

 

Self- Control means being tough on yourself but gentle on others this is sometimes not easy to do.

 

In all aspects of your life, make it a challenge to learn to be tough on yourself but go gentle on others! By being tough on yourself, I mean you should set extremely high standards and values for yourself. Your time and skills are very valuable. Use careful consideration when acting on things. You are quality workmanship and you should expect nothing less of yourself.  However, as a manager of your self, you should be aware that it is unwise to try to change others. By being slow to judge others who do not reach your high standards is a way to foster self –control and improve your management abilities.

You must understand that every one has their own perception of excellence. Encourage never criticize.

 

1)   Your personal standards can be increased by the way your control clutter in your life.

2)   How you let others into your personal space, is an other challenge. An open door policy really means an open mind.

3)   Always strive for integrity at work. Remember trust is earned.

4)   In your home, teaching your children is paramount teach with love.

5)    Being tough on yourself generates self- worth, self- confidence, self- discipline and self- control.

 

 

 

 

Feeling Like a Kid Again- Relieves Tension and Builds Memories

Feeling like a kid again- relieves tension and builds memories, this is not very hard to do. 

Remember when you were a kid and you had those awesome pillow fights with your brothers, sisters or best friends!

Remember the laughter and joyful sounds everyone made!

Remember the exhausted feelings afterwards, tired from laughing, crying, and the physical effort of throwing those pillows around.

I vividly remember all the feathers that fell slowing about the room and the piles of feathers and blankets on the beds. While grandmother would have to teach us how to restuff the pillows with feathers, we totally enjoyed every minute.

 

You can have this fun again by having a fun filled pillow fight in bed with your significant other, or child. Do it in the content of love and good fun and be watchful that no one gets hurt. 

The same release of tension and laughter will feel so good!

 

Perhaps you may not have to pick up any feathers but getting hugs and warm affection makes up for the old- fashioned comfy feelings.

Letting our inner child come out to play is great at any age.

 

 

 

 

Being a Non-Conformist can be Fun and Energizing Part 2

 

 This is the second part of your non-conformist experiment.

Be a non-conformist during your workday! This can be done easily yet within the standards of your work environment. Even easier if you own your company, but that is for another blog.

 

Wear a humorous yet, tasteful tie with your most solemn business suit or a flamboyant pair of earrings with your most sophisticated outfit. The only limit to your creativity is your personality. 

Be prepared for a few comments, smiles and perhaps some conversations that you have not expected yet needed.

This experiment can be a great icebreaker during a networking session or conference. Have extra business cards available and ready sales dialogue as needed.

Remember do not make excuses for the non-conformity this is to reduce your stress and open up conversation and creativity.

Try this experiment again in a month or so with a different tie and tie tack, or a glamour bling pin instead of earrings.

Relax be creative and act out side the box. 

You will find yourself looking forward to the next out of character experiment. The positive energy and fun will make live enjoyable.

Stop Taking Yourself So Seriously! Here is a Way to do it! Hey If the couch can do it you can too!!

Many times, I have found that I have been much too serious with myself. I also seem to beat myself up on a regular basis. This makes me feel stressed and out of balance with my inner feelings. I know that I should treat myself better. I also know that no one else is going to treat me better. I have to teach others how I want to be treated. Granted this sounds like a lot of work but it must be done, because no one knows you better then you!!

I have found a way stop taking myself so seriously and I have been able to laugh at myself as well!

Write three jokes about yourself, if you can take yourself lightly, you will not be so defensive when others allude to your flaws and foibles.

I’m thin and short so I always have a few vertically challenging jokes on my list. There are plenty of thin jokes, on my list as well.

I also color my hair so my gray/white hair does not show. There are plenty of creative hair jokes, just ready to write.

The fun is to look at yourself with different, not so serious eyes. This little exercise will be worth it!

 

Being a Non-Conformist can be Fun and Energizing Part 1

 

I am a non-conformist on the weekends. The most non- conforming thing I do is what I eat when. For me it is fun and very energizing because it relieves me from the mundane weekly routine. So what is so unusual? 

I have dinner at breakfast and breakfast at dinnertime. I do this both on Saturday and Sunday. 

For instance, I will make chicken noodle soup with a little salad and fresh bread for breakfast. I will have eggs, sausage and pancakes at dinnertime. 

Perhaps I will make a complete food group pizza for breakfast on Sunday. The pizza will include the usual cheese, sausage, mushrooms and tomatoes but I will add some pineapple, maybe a few orange slices and some avocado. Believe me the visual effect is wonderful and it really does taste great. I also think it covers ALL the food groups at one time. 

Being creative in your own way can make you feel like a non-conformist and this will allow you to think and act outside the box. Out side of your everyday routine.
